Cloud Container Engine (CCE)

Simplifying your work in the cloud

Containers take working with clouds to the next level. In containers, only the essential parts of applications are transported, while the operating system and libraries, for example, are provided by the platform. Software developers who work with continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) methods often use containers to roll out, stop or move complete application landscapes.

As such, containers fundamentally facilitate the management of IaaS landscapes. As well as reducing network costs and enabling platform independence, they also accelerate work with clouds and therefore provide the basis for business agility. Containers can also be used for automatic functions such as application scaling.

Containers in the Open Telekom Cloud

The Cloud Container Engine (CCE) in the Open Telekom Cloud allows containers to be configured using both virtual machines (ECS) and Bare Metal Servers. Based on Kubernetes and Docker, the Cloud Container Engine is compatible with Docker and offers the option of accessing the public resources of the Docker hub. The CCE manages clusters, images, templates and compatible applications, as well as the operation of these applications. In order to work with Kubernetes, it is necessary to create a cluster in which users configure and manage their container applications. Both customized internal images as well as external images from Docker registries can be used for this. CCE supports the Helm command line interface.

To define and start containers, the CCE offers a choice of conventional input screens as well as a graphical user interface, in which modules can be created for individual application components via drag and drop. Additional functions offer a high degree of convenience when using containers in the Open Telekom Cloud; these include application management, resource management, job management, cluster auto scaling, advanced storage management with persistent storage, etc. Use of the CCE itself is free of charge; cloud resources are billed in accordance with the usual scheme.
