The administration and use of a container repository with versioning and an authorization concept is part of the daily business of the DevOps teams. The teams use software repositories for their containers. These allow the management of container images over the entire lifecycle.
With Software Repository for Container (SWR), a service is available on the Open Telekom Cloud to master these tasks. Besides other functionalities SWR supports an organization management. The container images can thus be separated and administered in different domains. The container repository also offers authorization management to restrict access to the respective images. The common operations, such as downloading, uploading and managing the container images, can be explicitly released for each user to ensure a secure workflow within their own organization.
The SWR can be addressed via the Docker CLI and the console of the Open Telekom Cloud in order to manage container applications. The container repository can be accessed via the Internet and intranet. Windows as underlying operating system for images is not supported (May 2020). The service is free of charge and limited up to 2 GB per image.
SWR is closely linked to the Cloud Container Engine (CCE) and offers an easy way to access the container images within the CCE cluster to start container applications. In addition, the management of container images and organizations is seamlessly integrated with the CCE interface.
