The summit in view: Leading public cloud providers in the German market. An overview of the ISG Provider Lens™ Multi Public Cloud Services 2024.

In this article you will read about

  • which public cloud providers are leading the German market in 2024,
  • the strengths identified by independent analysts in the Open Telekom Cloud
  • and how you can obtain the complete report.

After the recent elections in the USA, old questions are being asked again: “What will happen in the 2025 public cloud market?”, “How much should companies rely on hyperscaler offerings?”, and “What European alternatives are available?”. The ISG Provider Lens™ Multi Public Cloud Services 2024, published at the beginning of 2025, once again provides decision-makers with an overview of the public cloud offerings in the German market. A total of 18 providers made it into the selection, of which six are classified as leading, including the Open Telekom Cloud.

Independent analyst report for public cloud services in the German market

The ISG report is recommended for IT managers, software development and technology managers, and purchasers. They will benefit from a consolidated overview of the strengths, weaknesses, and developments of the individual platforms. They will also gain a better understanding of the current landscape of hyperscale infrastructure and cloud platform service providers in Germany.

Open Telekom Cloud in the leader quadrant for the sixth time

For 2023/2024, the situation in the leader quadrant is almost unchanged. AWS and Azure still lead the field. Google Cloud, the Open Telekom Cloud, and IONOS form the chasing trio in the leader quadrant. In 2024, noris network also made the leap into the leader segment. The rest of the field is also interesting to look at.  ISG awarded OVH and STACKIT a Rising Star last year (2023). However, neither provider made the leap into the leader segment.

ISG Multi Public Cloud Services 2024: Leader Quadrant Open Telekom Cloud

The analysts' requirements for leading providers are: “Providers of public cloud infrastructures are characterized […] by a broad service portfolio that is enhanced by artificial intelligence and machine learning and ensures high availability, security, and automation while reducing manual errors.”

With the current edition of this benchmark, the Open Telekom Cloud has now been classified as a market leader for the sixth consecutive time and has established itself as a powerful public cloud offering and hyperscaler alternative. The analysts summed up accordingly: “With the Open Telekom Cloud, T-Systems is one of the major IaaS/PaaS providers. Their services, security, and flexibility are highly valued by many customers from all size classes and industries.”

Special strengths of the Open Telekom Cloud: rich portfolio, GenAI support, sovereignty

Analysts see three specific strengths in the Open Telekom Cloud that benefit users: Flexibility, support of GenAI projects, and platform sovereignty. “The Open Telekom Cloud [offers] comprehensive services and functions that bring great added value to companies of all sizes.” In addition, it is important for ISG that the services offered by the Open Telekom Cloud can be easily combined with services of large hyperscalers to create multicloud architectures.

AI, GenAI in particular, is a hot topic currently – public clouds must align their offers accordingly to support AI solutions efficiently. The Open Telekom Cloud has recognized the signs of the times and has adapted to these needs: “The Open Telekom Cloud and its partner ecosystem offer a wide range of services for the development and operation of GenAI-based solutions”. With the US election and general geopolitical developments, the topics of digital sovereignty and a sovereign cloud are back in focus for companies. Users must ask themselves whether their chosen cloud platforms will reliably support their business in the medium and long term and evaluate the status of data sovereignty on these platforms.

The Open Telekom Cloud offers state-of-the-art secure infrastructure for European business customers. Sovereignty, compliance, reliability, and sustainability are indispensable features that are strictly adhered to. T-Systems guarantees that the data is processed and hosted in European data centers and is operated exclusively by European employees. Cloud security is documented with BSI C5 certification.

Leading in Europe as a sovereign cloud provider

This classification  has consequences. T-Systems is also classified as a leader in the European benchmark for sovereign cloud infrastructures. The analysts also welcome the platform's open-source approach, which creates far-reaching interoperability: “T-Systems is a pioneer in sovereignty and offers a unique portfolio of services. It is the only provider on the market to offer two different sovereign public cloud platforms and a hub for sovereign data ecosystems.”
