Image Management Service (IMS)
Without an operating system, it would be impossible to use virtual hardware resources like the Elastic Cloud Server (ECS). Therefore, clouds provide collections of operating system images, also referred to as image management systems. The images contained therein are optimized for use in cloud environments. When rolling out virtual machines, an operating system is automatically installed. For installing the operating system, the flavors must have a minimum amount of block storage (elastic volume storage), i.e. a system disk. The size of this virtual disk depends on the operating system used. Images of up to 128 GB can be uploaded. The RAW and ZVHD2 formats are exceptions to this, with a maximum upload size of 1 TB.
The images are stored in Object Storage Service (OBS) are operated in the EU under European management and are GDPRcompliant. Non-European authorities have no access.
With IMS, you can create, edit, upload and delete images via a web-based management console to deploy ECSs with private images and simplify image maintenance.
The Open Telekom Cloud is compatible with the image formats QCOW2, VMDK, RAW, VHD, ZVHD2 and VHDX. A list of available public images is available in the Image Factory. This serves to prepare images for use with the Open Telekom Cloud.
The sharing function meets the multi-organisational requirements of up to 256 projects in the Open Telekom Cloud.
The privately created images can be launched in any location. This ensures the uniqueness of your application environment and facilitates maintenance and updating.
With the IMS, private images can be created from a server or an external image file and you can use an image to create servers.
The IMS is free of charge, but the generated resources (OBS storage) are chargeable. The license costs of the operating system images are included in the costs for the respective virtual servers.
In addition to the public images, private images with their own operating system or application image are also possible. The Open Telekom Cloud offers a bring-your-own-license model for this.
Image management service enables the migration of company-specific applications in the Open Telekom Cloud with the import function.
