Image Management Service (IMS)

Without an operating system, it would be impossible to use virtual hardware resources like the Elastic Cloud Server (ECS). Therefore, clouds provide collections of operating system images, also referred to as image management systems. The images contained therein are optimized for use in cloud environments. When rolling out virtual machines, an operating system is automatically installed. For installing the operating system, the flavors must have a minimum amount of block storage (elastic volume storage), i.e. a system disk.  The size of this virtual disk depends on the operating system used. Images of up to 128 GB can be uploaded. The RAW and ZVHD2 formats are exceptions to this, with a maximum upload size of 1 TB.

Data protection

The images are stored in Object Storage Service (OBS) are operated in the EU under European management and are GDPRcompliant. Non-European authorities have no access.

Ease of use

With IMS, you can create, edit, upload and delete images via a web-based management console to deploy ECSs with private images and simplify image maintenance.
