Log Tank Service (LTS)

Various services and devices can be monitored using log data in order to ensure that they are running error-free. With the Log Tank Service (LTS), the Open Telekom Cloud offers a service which records log files from different sources and archives them efficiently. The Log Tank Service can, for example, consolidate logs which are distributed across different systems in a single location. The log files are not only saved here; they can also be searched in a targeted manner. This provides operations staff with real-time insights, which help them identify and remedy errors and error sources.

The Log Tank Service (LTS) in the Open Telekom Cloud has a full-text search function. The sources from which the logs are (automatically) recorded are continuously being expanded upon. The LTS initially accesses the VPC flow logs for data traffic both to and from the Virtual Private Cloud. Furthermore, the LTS enables the introduction of guidelines which move LTS data into object storage. Logs can be organized into groups and topics. Alongside the search and transfer functions, the LTS also supports (automatic) monitoring of services and devices, as well as triggering of alarms.

Real-time log view

You can view the last seven days of logs in real time, helping you diagnose logs of interconnected services such as Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). In addition, you can preview these logs in the log display area.

Log query and analysis

This function allows you to query historical logs by filter, diagnose faults, and track the system, helping you operate and maintain devices and analyze customer service trends.

Log transfer

Logs are stored on the LTS for seven days by default, and earlier logs are deleted automatically. For long-term storage, you can transfer logs to OBS buckets. To take advantage of Log Transfer, please fulfill the prerequisites found here.

Log groups

A log group is a collection of logs and a basic unit for managing logs. You can transfer logs to log groups for storage to facilitate log queries.

Log topics

A log topic is the basic unit of a log group, each containing a maximum of 100 log topics. Logs are distinguished by log topic, helping to facilitate future queries. For example, you can name log topics as different IDs, thus quickly finding out the logs you need by entering a log topic.

Agent is a tool used by the LTS to collect logs. It runs on the server where logs are collected and needs to be installed when first using LTS. If you need to collect logs of multiple hosts, you can also install the Agent in batches. You can view the running status of the Agent in real time on the LTS console.

Use Case: Consuming LTS logs with Distributed Message Service (DMS)

To interconnect Log Tank Service (LTS) logs with your O&M platform in real time, you can enable the log subscription function. After the function is enabled, LTS calls the Distributed Message Service (DMS) transmission API to send logs to a specified Kafka queue. You can then consume logs in this Kafka queue. The log subscription function is disabled by default, meaning you need to manually enable it, after which you can modify the settings. If you do not need to use the log subscription function, you can disable it. For further information please visit the Log Subscription chapter in the LTS documentation.
