Elastic Load Balancer (ELB)
Elastic Load Balancers are used to avoid “single points of failure.” Based on policies that can be freely adapted by service operators, the load balancer distributes incoming requests to a service across several backend servers. The right distribution of the workload across multiple servers ensures that the service maintains the same performance level at all times and prevents it from becoming overloaded or unavailable. The response times of the service thus remain in the desired or optimum range.
The Elastic Load Balancer supports up to 100 million concurrent connections and is compatible with OpenStack. It is available in two different versions. Each type has its advantages for different requirements.
- Shared Load Balancer is suitable for web services with heavy traffic. This type of load balancer is capable of forwarding requests based on domain names or URLs, to meet your needs more flexibly. Resources are shared among load balancers. It supports the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol and the corresponding encryption algorithms.
- Dedicated Load Balancer allows you to have exclusive use of resources, so that the performance of a dedicated load balancer is not affected by other load balancers. In addition, there are a wide range of specifications available for selection. Dedicated load balancers provide more powerful forwarding performance and support cross-AZ deployment.
