Elastic Cloud Server (ECS)
With the help of virtual machines (VM) from the cloud, you can book server capacities quickly and flexibly via the Internet. We have combined our broad portfolio of VM variants – so-called flavors – for you in our Elastic Cloud Server portfolio. You determine specifications such as the desired operating system or service duration. Since hardware components such as RAM and CPUs are emulated virtually, you can combine them freely according to your wishes. The result are flavors that are perfectly tailored to your needs. The Open Telekom Cloud uses KVM as a hypervisor to provide virtual machines in a total of nine performance classes via the ECS offering. These cover all possible use cases, such as graphics calculations, virtual workplace systems and Big Data functions.


Our service is operated in the EU under European management and is GDPR-compliant. Non-European authorities have no access.

Independent analysts confirm that the ECS of the Open Telekom Cloud provided the best price-performance ratio among comparable providers.

- Reliability: Our Service Level Agreements (SLA) guarantee 99.95% availability of the ECS service. The VMs run redundantly in two spatially separated availability zones (AZs) to minimize downtime.
- Efficient networks: Our ECS offer relies on the quality-of-service principle: by allocating resources dynamically and prioritized, it optimizes communication in the network, provides reliable performance and uses bandwidth efficiently.
- Security: In the event of a failure of the physical server on which the virtual ECS instance is located, the system automatically restores the affected workload.


We use OpenStack as our software basis. This open-source solution is further developed by a dedicated community that subjects the code to a rigorous public review before each release to rule out errors and security gaps.

ECS includes three pricing models: Elastic (hourly billing), Reserved (discounted monthly pricing for continuous use), and Reserved Upfront (increased discounts through prepayment). The license costs for the operating system are already included.

Bring your own license (BYOL) allows you to use your existing operating system license. This means you do not have to apply for a new one. With the BYOL license type, you can thus significantly reduce your costs when booking the ECS.
General Purpose
This ECS flavor provides a balanced level of compute, storage, and network capacity, and the ability to quickly add additional resources during peak loads.

The general-purpose ECS s2 and s3 are suitable for applications that have no special requirements in terms of CPU performance, memory space, hard disk capacity or bandwidth, but demand high standards of security and reliability. They require low initial investment and maintenance costs. - Application scenarios
Application scenarios include corporate websites, office environments, corporate R&D and testing activities, web servers, and small databases.

Dedicated General Purpose
This flavor uses scalable processors with high-speed intelligent network adapters. It is optimized for powerful and stable computing performance and network bandwidth with high PPS (packets per second) count.

Memory-Optimized
Memory-optimized ECS use processors optimized for high and stable computing performance. They offer a maximum memory size of 512 GB based on DDR4 for memory-intensive applications with high demands on network bandwidth and data throughput in Packets per Second (PPS).
Scenarios:
- High-performance relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB or Cassandra).
- Distributed web-based caches used to improve the performance of dynamic websites with database connections (e.g., Memcached or Redis).
- Applications for processing big unstructured data in real time (e.g., financial services or Hadoop/Spark clusters).
- High performance computing (HPC) and electronic design automation (EDA).

Large Memory
This flavor provides an even larger amount of memory than Memory-optimized ECS. It is used for applications that process large amounts of data and require low latency.
Scenarios:
- OLAP (online analytical processing) systems to perform multidimensional analysis at high speed, OLTP (online transactional processing) applications with active hyper-threading to execute a large number of database transactions in real time, SAP HANA applications (including Business Suite S/4HANA, Business Suite on HANA, and Business Warehouse on HANA), and Big Data solutions (for example, Apache Spark).
