This is a first! Dekra has successfully conducted an audit on T-Systems’ Trusted Cloud Data Protection Profile (TCDP). As this is our first certification for TCDP 1.0, the results have been sent to Germany's national accreditation body, DAkkS, which is now examining the auditor Dekra’s findings. In around four weeks, the Open Telekom Cloud will finally possess the eagerly awaited certification. With the Trusted Cloud Data Protection Profile, T-Systems can prove that it fulfills all compliance criteria and legal requirements relating to data protection. This certification is recognized by the German authorities and is vital for complying with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, which will enter into force in May 2018.

To date 16 providers have achieved listing as a Trusted Cloud Provider: one of them is T-Systems with Open Telekom Cloud. “This listing marks a big step towards becoming a certified Trusted Cloud Provider,” explains Daniel Fussy, who is delighted for Open Telekom Cloud’s certification team. 

With Trusted Cloud listing, Open Telekom Cloud is establishing itself as a transparent and trustworthy cloud provider for public bodies and medium-sized companies.

Trusted Cloud is an initiative supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in accordance with a resolution passed by the German Parliament. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs indirectly accredits cloud providers who have completed a multi-stage process to prove that they comply with the requirements of the 64-page criteria catalogue. The Trusted Cloud Initiative supports the Trusted Cloud label for cloud services, which has been specifically developed with the needs of users in mind: transparency, security, quality and legal compliance – and that it is unique on the German market.

As part of the scheme, cloud providers must fulfil the requirements of German contract law so that users are able to enforce their rights. Also under scrutiny are the arrangements that providers have to support users when their contract ends, and that procedures are in place to ensure that the requirements of data protection law are contractually documented. Official certification will occur later: currently the Trusted Cloud Initiative are selecting auditors and an accreditation body.

At the Trusted Cloud Forum on 22nd March, leading cloud experts will discuss the challenges faced by companies on their journey to the cloud and how these can be successfully overcome. This event is organised by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in cooperation with the Trusted Cloud e.V. sector network.

Alongside Matthias Machnig, Under Secretary of State at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, attendees include CIOs from the private and public sectors, SME cloud users and providers. Open Telekom Cloud user Schwaiger will present their case study and Frank Strecker, Senior Vice President - Cloud Partner Products & Ecosystems, will take part in the panel discussion.
